What initial data do I need?
Your domain name. Your ftp username and password. You should have all of this information from your welcome email that we sent you. If you do not have this connect us ASAP.
Quick Setup Instructions
- Start Dreamweaver.
- Go to the "Site" option on the menu.
- Click on New Site.
- Click on Local Info option.
- Name the site:
- The local root folder is the path on the hard drive where the files are located
- Check Refresh
- Default images folder is where your site images are being stored
- HTTP Address folder is the address for the site if you enable the link checker
- Remote Info:
- Choose FTP
- Enter the FTP information provided by Hosting.com
- Check Auto upload files to server on save
Detailed Step-by-Step Walk through
Use the menu at the top and select Site, then select Manage Sites.
Click New Site
Name your site anything, like myWebSite, click on the Advanced tab.
Local info is where your website files reside on you local computer. Remote info is where you will enter the credentials to connect to the hosting FTP account.
Enter the location of the files on your computer, then select remote info.
On the remote info screen complete the following:
Set Access to mode FTP
FTP Host: Enter the hostname provided to you. Host Directory: Enter the host directory / webroot path provided. This may be www or public_html Username: Enter your FTP username Password: Enter your FTP password
Click on SAVE PASSWORD so you don't have to re-enter it
Passive transfers: click this box ON (if you have connection troubles you can try clicking it off). Firewall: You usually leave this checked off SFTP: You usually leave this checked off Checkin and checkout: Use this option if you only want altered files to transfer to the server. Leave it off if you want the entire site to transfer each time. Checkin/checkout is a feature of Dreamweaver software, and we won't cover that here. For more information about how this feature works, please contact Adobe or your Dreamweaver help documentation.
Click on test to test your logon. If it does not work, try tweaing your Passive and Firewall settings.
If it works of press OK at the bottom of the page to exit this page.
Ok now click on Done and your site project should appear in the sidebar of Dreamweaver, like this:
