Once all of the valid email addresses -- and aliases -- for your domain are known to the spam filter, the filter can (and should) be configured to not accept messages sent to invalid email addresses at your domain. Our servers will simply block these messages before they reach your network.
To enable this feature, go to the Inbound Filtering > Spam Handling > Unknown Users tab in the control panel. There are three options:
- BLOCKED: If this option is selected, any messages sent to email addresses not listed in the control panel will be rejected. We will send a Delivery Failure notice to the sender.
- DROPPED SILENTLY: If this option is selected, any messages sent to email addresses not listed in the control panel will be accepted and then silently deleted. The sender will NOT be notified of the message's failure.
- PASSED THROUGH UNFILTERED: This is the default setting and the only option you should choose if you have not entered all your email addresses and aliases. Any messages sent to email addresses not listed in the control panel will be accepted and passed on to your mail server, without being filtered for spam.
To block all messages to unknown users, select the first option (blocked). The second option (dropped silently) will also block messages to unknown users, but no bounce message will be generated.
